Financial calculators that show their work

FinToolHub is a free hub of financial calculators — retirement, taxes, 401(k)s, capital gains, and more — built to be accurate first and easy to use second, not the other way around.

Why we built this

Most financial calculators online fall into one of two camps: generic tools that don’t actually understand the topic they’re calculating (a retirement calculator that treats a federal pension the same as a 401(k)), or bloated pages so buried in ads and pop-ups that finding the actual number takes longer than doing the math by hand.

FinToolHub exists to be neither. Every calculator on this site is built specifically for the thing it’s calculating — our FERS Retirement Calculator uses the actual OPM computation rules, not a generic “years times a percentage” approximation — and every result is available instantly, without an account, a paywall, or your email address.

How we build a calculator

We treat every calculator the same way a piece of software should be treated: written, tested, and checked against known-correct examples before it’s published. Concretely, that means:

1

Source the real rules

We build from primary sources — government agencies (like OPM for federal retirement), published tax code, and official formulas — not from copying what other calculator sites already have online.

2

Test against known answers

Before any calculator goes live, we run it against worked examples with known correct results — the kind of test you’d expect from software, not usually from a content page.

3

Say what it can’t do

Every calculator tells you plainly what it doesn’t account for. An estimate that hides its own limits is more dangerous than no estimate at all.

Your numbers stay yours

Every calculator on FinToolHub runs entirely in your browser. When you enter a salary, a birth date, or a savings balance, that number is never sent to our servers — it’s not stored, logged, or seen by us in any form. Close the tab and it’s gone. You can read the full detail in our Privacy Policy.

How we make money

FinToolHub is supported by advertising (Google AdSense) rather than subscriptions, paywalls, or selling your data — because we don’t collect your data to sell in the first place. Ads help keep every calculator free and account-free. We don’t accept payment to change a calculator’s output or to rank one financial product above another; the math is the math regardless of who’s advertising on the page.

Who’s behind FinToolHub

FinToolHub is an independently run project — add your own founding story, background, or team bio here. We’d rather be upfront that this is a newer, focused site than pretend otherwise: what we’re asking you to trust isn’t a decades-old brand, it’s the calculations themselves, which is why Sections 2 and 3 above exist.

Found a mistake?

If a calculator gives you a number that doesn’t match your official statement (from OPM, HR, the IRS, or elsewhere), we want to know — both to help you and to check our own work. Tell us what happened and we’ll look into it.
